“Mirror, Mirror, on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all?” cackles the demanding Wicked Queen. My sisters and I sit transfixed to the large black and white screen of our cabinet television as we watch the unfolding of Walt Disney’s tale of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
There is something about the honesty of the mirror – the fact that the mirror always sees things that the Queen cannot – that makes me ponder about what I “see” in my own mirror. Like the Wicked Queen in Snow White, many of us are “Mirror Challenged.” It is hard for us to see our self and our circumstances from any other perspective than the one we tell ourselves to see. We are what we believe. We see what we expect to see. We see what we choose to see. Our perspective is unique to us.
It’s not until we step into the changing room of Owning that we are forced to see our self from multiple perspectives. Naked in the glaring lights and three-way mirror, we have an opportunity to see our self from a new perspective. Not a condemning fault-finding perspective, but an honest deep look at all of our strengths and blessings. Accepting our faults, those things we have been avoiding or denying, allows us to create new opportunities of learning and creating MORE.
So the first phase of moving forward is to LOOK deeply into the mirrors of our lives. Look clearly, honestly and emphatically, at all that consumes your life. Without judgment, excuses or ‘ya buts’ – just look. Take note, make a list, categorize it, color it, code it, whatever works to make it as complete as you can. Then OWN it. Owning is the second key element of living MORE. Owning allows you to embrace, increase, rewrite, or release, any aspect that is limiting your potential.
